Here are my answers for the swap. I can't wait to see what you come up with!
The Questionnaire:
What are your favorite colors? If I had to pick two, I would say purple and green, but I also love jewel tone colors and find myself being drawn to all of the seaside colors in the stores now like aqua, lime, avocado, etc.
Are you a new sock knitter? How long have you been knitting socks? I wouldn't call myself a new sock knitter as I have finished several pairs of socks, but I haven't yet made it through anything more complicated than your basic sock pattern. I have been drooling over and contemplating many of the interesting lace and other textured sock patterns that are out there. So I think that must mean I am ready to wander out of the shallow end and into the deep end with my sock knitting lol
Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn? I seem to gravitate mostly towards multicolored, but feel free to pick something that goes with the pattern you send for me.
What fibers do you prefer in sock yarn? I love the washableness of the superwash yarns, but obsess about the absolute softness of things like alpaca, cashmere and merino. So feel free to surprise me
Where do you usually knit socks? Socks go where I go! That can be on the couch or in line at the grocery store. I love their compact size with not too many tools to drag along.
How do you usually carry/store small projects? I have several baskets that I use but for ultimate portability I use ziploc bags. I think that is why I liked this swap. I would like to carry something cuter than that
What are your favorite sock knitting patterns? I like a lot of the lacy socks, but also like the textured patterns that aren't as holy as the seem to wear better/longer and are warmer for the winter
What are your favorite sock knitting techniques? I like to knit toe up in the magic loop. I have bigger than the norm ladies feet and that way I can better gauge if I will have enough yarn to finish my socks as many times just having a skein of 350 yds doesn't quite give me the length I need.
What new techniques would you like to try?I would like to try some new stitches in the socks themselves such as lace or fair isle (surprise me) or even two socks at one time on two circulars.
Do you prefer circulars or dpns for sock knitting? circulars
What are some of your favorite yarns? Opal, Trekking, Mountain Colors, Schaefer (Anne)
What yarn do you totally covet? Cherry Tree Hill, Lorna's Laces
Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object?Probably a fair isle pattern out of many different colors and knee high. Whenevre I look at those type of patterns it is always hard to buy all of the yarn needed for the pattern knowing you would use so little of each color.
Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)?Bamboo would be my favorite type of circular needle but they are hard to come by in the little sock sizes. For those sizes I would have to say either addi or Inox although I usually don't love the aluminum slickness. I guess really I just like them to have a good sharp tip.
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be? I think I would be Alpaca With A Twist's Landscape yarn in the Purple colorway.
Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack? Hmmm I love all things chocolate and fudgy. But things like gummy bears, carmels or other chewy treats are fun too. Surprise me
What’s your favorite animal? Hmmm... Alpacas or horses
Do you have pets? What are their species/names/ages? yes, a cat named Midnight that is 7 years old
If you were a color what color would you be? that color somewhere between purple and magenta
Describe your favorite shirt (yours or someone else’s).. A v neck short sleeved shirt that comes down over the belly and has just enough lycra to give it a little shape
What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature? I think most any free flowing field of wildflowers, the more vibrant the colors the better.
Anything else you’d like to share with the group today? Since the idea here is to make some sort of a bag I thought that I would let you know some of my preferences when it comes to fabric. I am really on a kick looking out for vintage fifties/sixties mod type fabrics. And then on the other extreme I like a lot of the vintage european type fabrics from Norway and Germany and such that have themes such as fairies, or gnomes, or other foresty type fun. I also have begun collecting vintage knitting spools. I am amazed by all of the different little figures that they have come in and different ways that they have been painted through the years.
